We could not do it without our volunteers! Join our volunteer team and help us make a difference in our marine environment.

We now have a Junior Volunteer Program, in which individuals aged 12 to 15 can volunteer (with a parent or legal guardian present and both the supervising adult and prospective junior volunteer must attend the orientation training sessions)!

Volunteer Orientations are held virtually each month. Once you have completed your application you will be able to sign up for the orientation that best fits your schedule.

Position Title: Volunteer Coordinator

Position Overview

The New York Marine Rescue Center (NYMRC) is now accepting applicants for a Volunteer Coordinator. The application deadline is July 15th or until ideal candidate is selected. This position is a part-time (up to 32 hours) with no benefits. This position  requires flexibility and adaptability and the ability to work evenings and weekends frequently.

The NYMRC is a rescue and rehabilitation organization that promotes marine conservation. Our mission is to preserve and protect the marine environment through conservation efforts including research, rescue, rehabilitation and education. As a 501 (c) non-profit, we are the primary responders for sick or injured pinnipeds, sea turtles and small cetaceans, and maintain the only marine mammal and sea turtle rehabilitation center in New York State.

 Duties:

  • Manage and oversee volunteer program which includes event, education, rescue team and office focused volunteers
  • Recruit, onboard and train new volunteers
  • Lead monthly and quarterly onboarding and orientation sessions
  • Communicate with key stakeholders including town and community contacts, employees, volunteers and members of the Board of Directors
  • Coordinate volunteer schedules to ensure coverage for various events and onsite support
  • Delegate volunteer job responsibilities at animal releases, fundraising and other various events
  • Organize annual volunteer appreciation events
  • Track program performance and effectiveness

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Strong interpersonal and writing skills.
  • Prior experience working with not-for-profits and volunteers preferred.
