Pick It Up!

Marine debris is adversely affecting marine animals at an alarming rate. The New York Marine Rescue Center needs your help to take a stand against this human-induced occurrence, and give these animals the best chance of survival. By working with our community partners, we will inspire the public to take action, change their behavior, and create a safer environment for future generations of humans and marine animals alike.

NYMRC currently uses stranding data to determine the magnitude of the impact on marine mammals and sea turtles that frequent New York waters. By integrating this data into marine debris lectures and beach clean ups, we will evoke change in New York communities, leading to a reduction in the amount of marine debris entering the environment.

Be the driving force behind eradicating marine debris and saving our marine environment. Join us for a beach clean up we host in your community, or suggest a new site in need of help. Most importantly, show us how you are saving the environment by reducing, reusing and recycling, and encourage others to do the same, by sharing your photos and stories on social media with us. As a result of your support, marine debris on the beach will be removed before it is given the opportunity to harm a marine animal.
