Kristina Hansen
Rescue Program Supervisor
Kristina Hansen is the Rescue Program Supervisor of New York Marine Rescue Center (NYMRC). Kristina started with NYMRC’s (formally RFMRP) rescue team in 2006 as a volunteer. After graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Vertebrate Biology from SUNY Stony Brook, Kristina was hired as a stranding technician with the NYMRC. In 2018, she was promoted from a technician to the Rescue Program Supervisor. Growing up on the east end of Long Island truly inspired Kristina’s love for marine life and the environment. It was her time at NYMRC that sparked Kristina’s passion for the conservation and preservation of marine mammal and sea turtles. During her career Kristina has been a part of several rehabilitation cases but some of her most memorable include the rehabilitation of two cetacean species, a dependent seal pup and several non-releasable animals. Kristina is dedicated to the preservation of these wild animals and enjoys giving rehabilitated animals a second chance at life.
